Official Announcement | On August 6, 2009, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the David Lawrence Convention Center during the American Philatelic Society Stamp Show, the Postal Service™ will issue the 44-cent definitive stamps Flags of Our Nation at noon, in ten designs, in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) coil of 50 (Item 787500). The stamps, designed by Howard E. Paine of Delaplane, Virginia, go on sale nationwide August 6, 2009. The U.S. Postal Service® continues its Flags of Our Nation series with ten more stamp designs scheduled for issuance in August. These stamps will feature the states of Kentucky through Missouri plus one with the Stars and Stripes over the amber waves of grain. Artist Tom Engeman, Bethany Beach, Delaware, created the highly detailed flag portraits on the stamps, reproducing as accurately as possible such complex elements as intricate state seals and coats of arms. |

How to Order the First Day of Issue Postmark |
Customers have 60 days to obtain the first day of issue postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamps at their local Post Office™, at The Postal Store® website at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling 800-STAMP-24. They should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice, address the envelopes (to themselves or others), and place them in a larger envelope addressed to: |

After applying the first day of issue postmark, the Postal Service will return the envelopes through the mail. There is no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked by October 7, 2009. |

Collect the entire series of the Flags of Our Nation stamps! Purchase our Collector’s Folio, Item No. 786575, $29.95, that contains the Series 1 coil with mounts and placeholders for all the Flags of Our Nation series stamps. |
Items with an asterisk (*) will use the 128 barcode from Stamp Fulfillment Services. All other philatelic products will continue to use barcode series A, with the exception of the Yearbook and the Guide Book. |
Distribution: Item 787500, 44-cent, Flags of Our Nation PSA Coil of 50 Stamps |
All stamp distribution offices (SDOs) will receive an automatic distribution of the $22.00 Flags of Our Nation PSA coil of 50. Distributions are rounded up to the nearest master carton size (800 coils). |
Initial Supply for Post Offices |
SDOs will make a subsequent automatic distribution of Item 787500 to Post Offices of approximately 5 percent of their standard automatic distribution quantity using PS Form 17, Stamp Requisition/Stamp Return. SDOs must not distribute this commemorative coil to Post Offices before July 30, 2009. |
Additional Supply |
Post Offices requiring additional coils must requisition them from their designated SDO using PS Form 17. SDOs requiring additional coils must order them from the appropriate accountable paper depository (APD) using PS Form 17. |
For fulfilling supplemental orders from SDOs, the Memphis, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco APDs will each receive additional coils. The Kansas City Stamp Services Center will receive additional coils for fulfilling supplemental orders from APDs. |
