Orientation of the "DO NOT WET Self-Adhesives" backing inscription
Type A - 45°  Upper Left to Lower Right Type B - 45°  Lower Right to Upper Left Type C - 45°  Lower Left to Upper Right Type D - 45°  Upper Right to Lower Left
Please note that there are several different 'type styles' used for the liner printing, and the above is only intended to show the orientation of the printing as you view it with the stamp design in the normal reading position. Almost all issues with liner printing have it at 45°, except the 'Flag over Porch' and 'Peaches and Pears' sheetlets which have both 45° and 36° liner printing.  On some issues, the blue liner printing is very light, making it difficult to determine it correctly.  Liner printing was eliminated in 1996.

Note that the printing on the 36/54° example on the left does not go from corner to corner as it does on the 45° examples above.  Also remember that stamps are not square as these illustrations are.

Type C - 36/54°  Lower Left to Upper Right
