Official Announcement The Postal Service will issue a 33-cent Classroom Flag (Item Number 553900) Definitive Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Stamp in Cleveland, OH, on March 13, 1999. The Classroom Flag stamp was designed by Richard Sheaff of Scottsdale, AZ, and illustrated by Hiro Kimura of Brooklyn, NY, and goes on sale nationwide on March 14, 1999. No official ceremony is planned.
Note Many financial institutions charge a service fee in addition to the face amount of $5.94 when these are purchased through an ATM machine.

Distribution

Stamp distribution offices (SDOs) will receive an automatic distribution of Item Number 553900, in three waves: February 22–March 8, April 26–May 11, and July 6–20. ATM sheetlets will be distributed only to those SDOs that have authorized philatelic centers or are currently participating in the ATM program. Quantities of ATM sheetlets distributed are based on information provided for the stamp survey effective July 1, 1998.

Initial Supply For Post Offices

Stamp sheetlets are packaged in master cartons of 12,000 (24 subcartons of 500 sheetlets.) Sales are restricted to post offices that service ATMs and that have authorized philatelic centers. Customers who want to buy the ATM stamp sheetlets should be referred to Stamp Fulfillment Services at 1-800-STAMP-24.

Additional Supply

Philatelic centers requiring additional sheetlets must requisition them from their designated SDO or SDN using a PS Form 17 . Those SDOs that participate in the ATM program and need additional stamp sheetlets must order them from their designated accountable paper depository (APD) using PS Form 17, Stamp Requisition.

The New York, NY; Washington, DC; Chicago, IL; and San Francisco, CA, APDs will receive 360,000 additional ATM sheetlets for filling supplemental orders. The Denver, CO, and Memphis, TN, APDs will receive 120,000 sheetlets. The Dulles, VA, SDN will receive 540,000 sheetlets; the Kansas City, MO, SDN will receive 4,992,000 ATM sheetlets.

Philatelic Requirement

SDOs with authorized philatelic centers will receive automatic distributions to provide 500 sheetlets to each center:

Sales Policy

Post offices that service ATMs and which have authorized philatelic centers must acquire and maintain a supply of the ATM stamp until it is officially withdrawn from sale. If supplies run low, post offices must reorder additional quantities using their normal ordering procedures.
