Official Announcement

The Postal Service will issue a 33-cent "Wile E. Coyote and Road Runer" commemorative stamp (Item Number 559100) in Phoenix, AZ, on April 26, 2000. The stamp, designed and illustrated by Frank Espinosa and Ed Wleczyk of Los Angeles, California, goes on sale nationwide April 27, 2000.

This is fourth stamp in the U.S. Postal Service's Looney Tunes Series.  Wile E. Coyote has appeared in more than 40 cartoons with Road Runner, the speedy object of his appetite.  A few other cartoons have pitted Wile E. against the sharp witted Bugs Bunny.

Wile E. Coyote is a loveable antihero.  His confidence and ambition never cease in his pursuit of the elusive Road Runner, who, relying on an instinctive gift for survival, effortlessly thwarts all his schemes.
Varieties Regular Sheet - The 10th stamp in upper right hand corner is die cut.  Die cutting on the block of 9 stamps on the left does not  go through the liner paper.  Die cuts are of the 'peak' variety.   There are no divots where the die cuts intersect.

Special Die Cut Sheet - The 10th stamp in the upper right hand corner is not   die cut.  There is a wavy line die cut on the liner through each row of three stamps  Die cuts are of the 'peak' variety. The intersection of vertical and horizontal die cuts have divots.

Philatelic Products

The Postal Service will issue the 33-cent Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner commemorative stamp in Phoenix, AZ, on April 26, 2000. In addition, a set of ten stamped cards featuring the Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner stamp design will be available at post offices and postal retail stores nationwide on April 27, 2000.

Distribution:

Stamp distribution offices (SDOs) will receive approximately one-quarter of  their standard automatic distribution quantities for the Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner commemorative pane. Distributions are rounded up to the nearest master carton size (2,000 panes).

Initial Supply to Post Offices

SDOs will make a subsequent automatic distribution to Post Offices for one-quarter of their standard automatic distribution quantities using PS Form 3309, Advice of Shipment/Stamp Invoice, and PS Form 17, Stamp Requisition. SDOs must not distribute stamps to Post Offices before April 19, 2000.

Philatelic Requirement

SDOs will not receive a separate quantity of this commemorative pane for their authorized philatelic centers. Philatelic centers must be supplied their quantities from the initial automatic distribution made to SDOs.

Additional Supply

Post Offices requiring additional stamps must requisition them from their designated SDO using PS Form 17. SDOs requiring additional stamps must order them from the appropriate accountable paper depository (APD) using PS Form 17.

Sales Policy

All Post Offices must acquire and maintain a supply of each new commemorative stamp until the stamp is officially withdrawn from sale. If supplies run low, Post Offices must reorder additional quantities using their normal ordering procedures.
