Official Announcement On September 5, 2008, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service™ will issue a nondenominated, definitive non­profit Sea Coast (5-cent value) stamp in a water-activated gum (WAG) coil of 500 (Item 781800). The stamp, designed by Phil Jordan of Falls Church, Virginia, goes on sale nationwide September 5, 2008.

The stamp was previously issued in the following formats:

  • 781400 — October 21, 2002, pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA), coil of 10,000 stamps.
  • 781800 — March 20, 2003, WAG, coil of 500 stamps.
  • 782000 — March 20, 2003, WAG, coil of 10,000 stamps.
  • 782700 – April 7, 2004, PSA, coil of 3,000 stamps.
Note The date in the lower left hand corner is 2008. Item 781800 is printed on the coil label.

How to Order the First Day of Issue Postmark
Customers have 60 days to obtain the first day of issue postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamps at their local Post Office™, at The Postal Store® Web site at https://store.usps.com/store/, or by calling 800-STAMP-24. They should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice, address the envelopes (to themselves or others), and place them in a larger envelope addressed to:

After applying the first day of issue postmark, the Postal Service will return the envelopes through the mail. There is no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked by November 7, 2008.

The $25.00 nonprofit rate Sea Coast, WAG Coil of 500 (Reprint Variety) will not be automatically distributed to Stamp Distribution Offices (SDOs). SDOs requiring quantities of this reprint variety of Item 781800 must order them from the appropriate accountable paper depository (APD) using a separate PS Form 17, Stamp Requisition/Stamp Return.
Initial Supply to Post Offices
SDOs will not make a subsequent automatic distribution of this reprint variety of Item 781800 to Post Offices. All Post Offices requiring quantities of this nonprofit rate, WAG Coil of 500 must order them from their designated SDO using PS Form 17. SDOs must not distribute this reprint variety coil to Post Offices before August 29, 2008.
Additional Supply
Post Offices requiring additional Item 781800 must requisition them from their designated SDO using a PS Form 17. SDOs requiring additional coils must order them from the appropriate APD using PS Form 17. For fulfilling supplemental orders from SDOs, the New York and San Francisco APDs will each receive 4,800 coils; the Chicago and Memphis APDs will each receive 4,000 coils. For fulfilling supplemental orders from APDs, the Kansas City SSC will receive 7,600 coils.
